This COC-Pedia post will discuss what a Certificate of Conformity (COC) is, whether it is possible for you to get a COC certificate online, and how you can go about getting a COC for your vehicle in an easy, hassle-free way using the COC service online through our website.
A COC, or a Certificate of Conformity, is a certificate that is needed to register a car from one country in another country. For example, maybe you have been living in France and have purchased a vehicle there, but are now looking to move to another country within the EU.
If you are looking to move permanently, or taking a business trip or holiday for an extended period of time and want to take your vehicle with you, it is likely that you will need a COC.
In EU Law, a COC is required as a declaration of conformity with the type approval of the European Commission. In brief, the COC guarantees the homogeneity of goods in the EU that are subject to registration, including passenger vehicles (M1), light goods vehicles (N1), and motorcycles (L). In simpler terms, the COC guarantees that the vehicle you are wishing to import is a European model and can be driven without the need for any modifications to comply with the road safety regulations of the new European country you are importing the vehicle into.
A Certificate of Conformity is a declaration from the manufacturers that their vehicle complies with the stated approval type the vehicle should fit into.
A Certificate of Conformity as a document corresponds to the technical characteristics of a unique vehicle. Usually the COC includes information such as the VIN number, colour of the vehicle, the number of seats the vehicle has, the emission norms and standards of that particular model, fiscal power, sound level, engine capacity, maximum speed, fuel type, consumption, gearbox type etc. A COC usually has 51 technical points. Of these points, the fuel efficiency and consumption is usually the most important as it often informs taxation levels in your new country.
When you purchase a brand new car or vehicle, an original paper Certificate of Conformity is presented to you by the manufacturer of that vehicle. But this does not mean that you cannot get a COC online if you have lost the original, or have purchased a car second-hand.
While you can contact the manufacturer of the vehicle to request a new COC, this is a time consuming and often difficult process to navigate. At EUROCOC, we remove all of the hassle of getting a replacement COC by dealing with the manufacturers ourselves.
